Makeup Collection Essentials – Lip Products

Hey Everyone,

To round up my Makeup Collection Series I had to include lip products, I have uneven lips so I find it very difficult to get them looking even and perfect – but really they do make an impact on the total outcome of the makeup look and can make or break a look! Here’s a link to the other posts in my Makeup Collection Series, Makeup Collection Essentials – Base Makeup and Makeup Collection Essentials – Eye Makeup, if you’re a beginner or looking to expand your makeup collection then make sure you get caught up!

Lip Scrub

I personally find this a vital step to prep your lips, especially if you are going for a bold lip! I recommend using a good lip scrub 2-3 times a week, my absolute favourite lip scrub is from Lush – you can read my review of the Lush Lip Scrub here!

Lip Balm

Again this is another vital step in prepping your lips, I like to put on some lip balm at the start of my makeup application and take it off before applying my lip products! I like the Carmex lip balms as I find they keep my lips hydrated for longer! What is your favourite lip balm?

Lip Liner

No matter what lip colour you are going for it is worth the taking the time to line your lips to help you achieve a professional, clean finish! If you’re starting out in makeup I recommend getting a good nude lip liner as you can pair it with pretty much every lip colour, if you know you’re going to wear a lot of bold lips then it is definitely worth picking up a lip liner in that colour too! Personally, I wouldn’t worry about matching your lip liner and lip colour perfectly as your lipstick will cover it anyways! It’s amazing how much longer your lip colour lasts with a lip liner, my personal favourite brands are MAC, Charlotte Tilbury, Rimmel, Kiko and  New Look!

Liquid Lipstick

This is one of my favourite ways to apply lip colour as it is so long wearing and you can find such a variety of formulas! One of my absolute favourite shades is Friendship from the Bare Minerals Gen-Nude Matte Liquid Lip Colour, this is also my favourite formula! Other fab formulas I’ve tried include MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour and Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipsticks! More affordable options include the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks and NYX Lip Lingeries!

Lipstick

When it comes to lipsticks there are so many great formulas out there and even more amazing shades, we’d be here all day if I tried to list my favourites but some standout brands include MAC, Charlotte Tilbury, Kiko and Rimmel! I always recommend applying a lipstick with a lip brush, especially if you’re going for a bold shade – I’ve more lipstick tips in my Ombre Lips Tutorial!

Lip Gloss

I’m finding myself going for a glossy lip more often and there are really only three options I swap between, the Jouer Lip Topper in Skinny dip if I want a glittery gloss or for a regular glossy lip I’ll go for the Max Factor Gloss in Lustrous Sands or the Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer in Tease! I wear these on top of a liquid lipstick to get more variety in colours and to get more longevity from my glossy lips!

  1. Hi Charlotte. Why the nude lip liner even when you are a beginner like me ? When using a lip brush do you apply the lipstick and then smooth with the brush ?

    1. Hey, I use a nude lip liner as it can go under most lipsticks without changing the shade that much – my favourite is MAC Boldly Bare as it’s just slightly peachier than my natural lip colour. I find that using a lip liner will help your lip colour last longer and have a nicer finish around the edges! And for the lip pencil, if you want a stronger more pigmented finish then apply to your lips and smooth it over with the brush or if you’re after a softer finish then apply with the brush! Hope this helps 💕
