Makeup Collection Essentials – Eye Makeup

Hey Everyone,

In my recent post Makeup Collection Essentials – Base Makeup I went over all the products I really recommend and love using to create the perfect base! You can see a lot of these products in action in my Flawless Base Youtube Video! This portion of the series will cover eye makeup, with everything from eyebrows, to eyeshadow to eyeliner will be covered and as always I will be sure to recommend more affordable options as well as high-end ones!

Eyebrows

I have just posted a blog post all about eyebrows and my favourite ways to fill them in! I find the easiest method is an eyebrow pencil, for me, it is the most foolproof method! I love the Soap and Glory Brow Archery 2-in-1 Brow Pencil but MAC and Anastasia Beverly Hills have amazing brow pencils as well, which are definitely worth the splurge! Personally, my preferred way to fill in brows is by using a brow pomade, these can be a little tricky at first but I love the end result so it is worth sticking too! I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade but I also love the Freedom Brow Pomade, you can get it for around £5 from Superdrug! I like to go in with a fibre brow gel after to help set my brows in place, I love the L’Oreal Artist Plumper Brow gel, however, Glossier Boy Brow is very highly rated in the beauty community!

Eyeshadow Primer

For a long time the argument of whether a concealer counted as an eyeshadow divided the beauty community! For some, it worked and for others it was useless. I was never a fan until I used Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer to prime my lids, but it just depends on what works for you! When it comes to a ‘traditional’ eyeshadow primer I love the Urban Decay one and it’s quite affordable considering just how long it will last for! I’m dying to try the PLouise Base but I think I’m going to wait until May when they release the rest of the shades and the bigger tubes!!

Eyeshadows

For me, there are too many individual eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes that I absolutely love – so I had to split this section up! Personally, I prefer to buy high-end eyeshadow palettes as I love eyeshadow and I find the splurge more worthwhile as the majority of the time a high-end eyeshadow will perform better, but it is all personal preference! This portion is more of a list of my favourite palettes and brands!

Morphe

This is one of my favourite brands for affordable palettes, my favourites include 35T, 35K, 25B and of course the Jaclyn Hill Palette! I have loads of videos and posts including these palettes!

Makeup Revolution

This is the top brand for affordable eyeshadow palettes, I love the Flawless palette and they also do a lot of dupes for high-end palettes too!

Urban Decay

The Naked palettes are infamous! They are great for more simple looks but in my opinion, the Urban Decay Ultimate Naked Basics is a must! It’s the perfect addition to every collection as its full of those perfect transition shades that are so handy for every look!

Too Faced

I’m a huge fan of Too Faced eyeshadow palettes, the colours are gorgeous and the packing is very hard wearing so perfect for travelling! I love the Chocolate Bar Palette, it’s my personal favourite!

Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette – Rose Gold Edition

This palette is fab! You get such a range of colours and the palette is very pigmented and high quality! However, I wasn’t keen on the Huda Beauty Dessert Dusk Palette as I found it patchy and disappointing!

Pigments and Glitters

With pigments and glitters, there are so many great options, and most perform the same way! I really recommend using a glitter glue underneath to help the pigment/glitter adhere properly! My favourite places are Helen E Cosmetics, MAC, Inglot and NYX.

Eyeliner

I’m a huge fan of felt tip liners, my absolute favourite is the Kat Von D Tattoo liner, however, the L’Oreal Super Slim Intense Liner is brilliant and very easy to use as well! When it comes to gel liner I like MAC Fluid Line, but I’ve heard great things about the Collection 2000 Liner and the Inglot Gel Liner as well! If you are wanting to use a pencil liner for your waterline I recommend looking for a waterproof one, my favourites are the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On WaterLine Eye Pencil and the Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Pencil!

Mascara

I’m not the biggest fan of mascara, and instead, I prefer to use falsies – but there are some standout mascaras which I love! Benefit is infamous for their mascaras and I especially love the Roller Lash Mascara, when it comes to volumising mascara my go to is Too Faced Better Than Sex – L’Oreal Lash Paradise is a great dupe for this! When it comes to more affordable mascaras I think Maybelline always steal the show!

TOP TIP: I always recommend doing your eye makeup first that way you can tidy up any fall out before applying foundation!

Love,

  1. Very good information here at least for me. I have used the L’oreal lash paradise and liked it but I love mascara anyway. I have seen in some videos the use of foundation under eyeshadow is this a good idea. I like your tip about eyes first. Very well done as usual.

    1. Thank you Hun, I’m glad you’re enjoying my content! I find that applying foundation or concealer can act like a primer for my shadows, I don’t have oily eyelids so I use this to enhance pigmentation of the shadows instead of using an eyeshadow primer which would increase longevity and pigmentation of the shadows! I would suggest using a primer if you have oily lids or eyeshadow creases on your lids if this isn’t the case for you then bringing your concealer or foundation onto the lids will work too! ❤️❤️

    1. I’m glad you like the post! Have you tried keeping the wand and using it with a CF mascara? I done this a few years ago with an expensive mascara I love and it worked well! Benefits formula is hard to beat tho! However I’ve heard good things about the KVD mascara and better than sex has always been a firm favourite of mine but it is more volumising! I’m trying to make the switch to CF as well, it can be hard to find alternatives for your favourite products 😞

      1. I’ve thought of that, but didn’t know if that was a thing people did!! I think I just might try that out. it can absolutely be hard to find dupes for your faves! I really appreciate the recommendations, so so helpful 🙂

  2. I can’t believe there was a time when I didn’t use eyeshadow primer! Especially because I have oily eyelids haha. I definitely agree with Makeup Revolution eyeshadows – they’re such good quality for the price and better than some of my high end shadows. Xx

      1. Makes sense to me. If you don’t wear the colors then it is not worth the purchase. I want it because I want to try all the colors. This is becoming more fun for me than embarrassing

  4. Lovely post! I also sometimes do my eye make up first before applying foundation especially when it comes to eyeliner. I’ve still not mastered the perfect cat eye yet haha. Have you got any tips on how to apply foundation as close to the liner but not completely ruining it? I’ve tried using a fine brush but I feel like that area always looks patchy.

  5. So nice to hear that someone else isn’t the biggest fan of mascaras either! Haha, I do like the look of falsies, but I’m terrible at applying them. I was eyeing some magnetic lashes the other day since I was thinking they might be easier to work with than eyelash glue… Maybe I just need the perfect mascara or pair of false lashes to change my mind 🙂
