It’s crazy to think my little old blog has been going for two years now! So I thought it was about time I gave you a little backstory as to why I started blogging!
I know it seems like a while ago now but this is the time I finally bit the bullet and got into blogging – after 2 failed attempts this was the one to stick!
I feel like I am a very different person now than I was back then, a few months previously my boyfriend and I had broken up. We had been together for almost 5 years (since I was 16!) so as you can imagine this affected me more than I realised at the time. Looking back I displayed a lot of ‘symptoms’ related to depression – thankfully my best friends stuck by my side and I’ve come through this period a lot stronger and now I’m much happier. At this time I was also in my final year of university – I ended up with a 2:1 in Media Studies with Marketing! Although I’m glad I have my degree, I honestly don’t think I’ll pursue a career in that field! So with the need to occupy my mind, a will to be passionate about something again and a love of all things beauty related – Charlottes Makeup Blog was born!
For all this time I had kept my blog to myself – I never told my sister or my best friends. I felt that they wouldn’t understand this world or why I wanted to open myself up to hundreds of people online. I had made a ‘secret’ Instagram for my blog and with 1,000 (amazing) subscribers to my blog fast approaching I decided to go public with my blog! Honestly, this was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. Even now when my friends tell me they’ve read my blog posts or watched my youtube videos a wave of panic washes over me!
However, sharing my blog with the world opened me up to all the fantastic opportunities that blogging has warranted me – I’ve been able to work with so many fantastic companies that I really do like and I’ve meant to many fantastic people who are now genuine friends of mine! Honestly blogging has changed my life and I’m so thankful for all the opportunities it has given me, so here’s to the future and all the places this little blog will take me!
