Tarte Shape Tape FIRST Impression!

Hey Everyone,

I finally got my hands on the most talked about concealer and I’ve got to say, I’m a little on the fence about it! My ride or die concealer has been the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ever since I got it and I really did think that shape tape would rival this but after a few uses I’m not entirely convinced…

Comparison of NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla and Tarte Shape Tape in Fair Neutral

Pros

This is definitely a full coverage concealer, I only needed 1-2 dots under each eye for maximum coverage, a little really does go a long way! The concealer dries to a soft matte finish and seems to stays put!

Cons

I found I really had to work with this concealer to avoid it creasing under my eyes! The wand is probably the most annoying thing about this concealer as it is unnecessarily big and can be quite messy. It also holds a lot of product so you need to be sure to wipe off the excess otherwise you’ll apply way to much!

This product has a strong perfume scent, so be careful if you have sensitive skin, especially when applying to the under eye area. I also found that this concealer oxidises quite a lot, it’s at least 2 shades darker after around 5 minutes, which means Fair Neutral (one of the lightest shades) can just about be used on my very fair skin tone to highlight the under eye area.

You can see just how much darker the concealer is compared to when it is first applied.

I didn’t find this to be extremely hydrating and I haven’t fully tested the longevity as I’ve only worn it for a few hours at a time. I’m really hoping that this concealer will grow on me but so far I’m just not loving it as much as I want to.

Overall I’m not that impressed with this concealer! What are your thoughts on this concealer? Is it worth the hype?

  1. Hmmm, I’m wondering what type of skin you have. Because since it’s not really hydrating, it might be a little better for oily skin! Because I know I don’t like make up products that keep your skin hydrated throughout the day, because besides my moisturizer, with oily skin I don’t need much more. But great review! I may or may not try it, as the oxidation thing does sound a little weird.

  2. I’ve seen only good reviews about this products and it’s interesting to see a not so good review as i was always worried that this type of concealer would have problems with creasing, especially with dry skin. Also, it is crazy how much darker it became after a few minutes on your hands! Great review though, love the honesty!

  3. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you! I personally love this concealer, I do agree that the want can pick up a lot of product and it sometimes makes it hard to work with, but a part of me loves the big wand. I have another Tarte Concealer that has the same wand and it just makes it easy to apply and use it for highlight as well.

  4. I’m really glad I read your blog post. I’ve had my eye on the Tarte Shape Tape concealer for a while, and considering it is twenty-five dollars I want to know it’s pro and cons.

I am VERY fair skinned and had no idea that this concealer oxidizes once it dries, so I am glad to know that. I’m happy you mentioned that it creases, because I was wondering about that as well. Despite it’s cons, I’m pleased to hear it is a full coverage concealer as it claims to be.

Thank you for reviewing this product 🙂

    1. If you can test them both! They Nars is a lighter formula which I think is why people dislike it! After using them both for a while I find them to be quite comparable but you need to use the smallest amount of Shape Tape otherwise it’ll crease haha
