High-End Disappointing Products

Hey Everyone!!

Recently I cleared out my make up drawer and got rid of some products that just didn’t live up to their expectations. It’s always disappointing when a product doesn’t work as well as hoped, especially when it’s expensive, so I thought I share my views on these products, including what I expected of them versus how it performed. I have also included a rating out of 10, with 1 being the worst and 10 obviously being the best!

MAC KOHL POWER EYE PENCIL – Feline £14

I bought this product after hearing a lot of hype on Youtube about how amazing it was and I basically expected it to give me a sultry smokey eye with minimal effort but in reality I found that it dried way too quickly and I ended up having less than 30 seconds to smudge out the eyeliner before it dried and whatever of it I could smudge was more of a grey than an intense black! I will however say that once it dried it did stay in place quite well but overall, it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Rating – 4/10

THE BALM SCHWING EYE LINER – £13.49

Similarly to the MAC eye liner I bought this one after hear great reviews and I keep going back to use it and hoping that I’ll love it too but honestly I really hate this product! I have never been able to get a decent cat eye and end up looking like a panda as is does not dry! like ever! Every time I have used this liner it has ended up running and feathering out, it’s awful! I don’t have particularly watery eyes so it must be the liner, which is so disappointing as it is a really nice intense black.

Rating – 3/10

THE BALM CINDY-LOU MANIZER – £17.49

I really loved the Mary-Lou Manizer and was hoping that this would be something along the same lines, however, sadly I am way too pale to use it as a highlighter and I often end up using it as a very light blush instead!

Rating – 3/10

BENEFIT THEY’RE REAL TINTED PRIMER – £18.50

IMG_0708

I’m usually a big fan of Benefit products, their Roller Lash Mascara is a favourite of mine, but this just didn’t cut it. I found that no matter what mascara I applied this under it just made my lashes clumpy and made them look a lot shorter than they are, and it took a lot of effort to make my lashes look decent, which isn’t what you want when using a primer. Overall, I found it to be a waste of a step and a waste of money.

Rating -1/10

SMASHBOX PHOTO FINISH PRIMER – £25.50

As some of you may know I am on the hunt for a new primer and this one is just one more run on the disappointing primer ladder. Sadly this one just didn’t work! I’m not sure if it was the combination of my foundation and this primer or just the primer alone but either way my foundation just slid right off and never blended right which is actually really annoying when you’re in a rush to do your make-up.

Rating – 4/10

If you have found any products to be disappointing or alternatively, love any of the products I’be mentioned I’d love to hear about it in the comments below. Of course these are just my opinions so I would recommend getting a sample of any of them before you spend the money just in case you have the same problems as I had!

Hope to see you around,

Love,

Charlotte xx

  2. Great idea for a post! I’ve never been that impressed by MAC products, and I soon went off Benefit’s They’re Real mascara after finding it impossible to remove. I almost pulled my eyelashes out! x
